...Leaders of the Church of England are pleading for more understanding and less acrimony in the debate over acceptance of homosexual behavior. The church's governing General Synod has endorsed a report by bishops that calls for balancing biblical teaching with changing social attitudes. The church's official line is that homosexual behavior is "incompatible with Scripture." But the bishop of Oxford, who helped write the new report, told his colleagues that "Christian tradition is dynamic and not static." Conservative Episcopalians, meanwhile, have been uniting with other Anglicans who oppose last year's consecration of the openly homosexual Bishop Gene Robinson of New Hampshire.
