November &
December's Edition focuses on Feelings, Faith & the Bible |
|
|
Many times we get emails from those who claim to know that they are
right because they feel it or just know because they say God lets them
know through a feeling in their heart. The Bible has some things to say
about feelings, faith, facts and the reality of the Truth in and about the
Word of God. There is nothing more damaging and dangerous for a Christian today than to simply equate “biblical faith” with “emotions and
feelings” and proceed to offer this to the world or other believers as the
proof of why they believe. Feelings have their place in the life of a
Christian. They are both necessary and important. A Christian is not an
emotionless entity. We are to be joyful. The problem comes when we
make emotions and feelings a basis for decisions. The door is opened
for a plethora of error to be introduced. The basis for evaluating Truth
cannot be feelings.

Moral Belief's of Young and Old Differ Greatly
http://www.mcjonline.com/news/03a/20031106e.shtml
(Maranatha Christian Journal) - A sizeable generation gap exists on nearly
every major moral issue in America today, a new poll by the Barna Research Group shows. The poll by Christian researcher George Barna
shows that on issues such as pre-marital sex, living together before
marriage and even pornography a double-digit gap exists between those
ages 18-38 and those ages 39 and up. Smaller gaps existed on abortion
and homosexual sex.

Messanic Prophecies
http://www.christianarsenal.com/Apologetics/MessProphecies.htm
I stand indebted to Dr. G. B. Chase Professor of Mathematics and
Computer Science at Messiah College for his insights on this section of the
Christian Arsenal. In looking at the Christological Prophecies of the Old
Testament, I was always amazed at all of the prophecies that Jesus Christ
fulfilled. I figured the statistical odds on what the chances were for a certain
number of prophecies to be made and fulfilled. The answers I came up with
were totally unbelievable. Dr. Chase challenged me to take this one step
further for the skeptic. A hard core skeptic could look at some of the
prophecies and the life of Christ and find many of them that could be
self-fulfilling prophecies.

Survey of the Bible
http://www.christianarsenal.com/Apologetics/SurveyoftheBible.htm
The Bible is one divinely unified book. The Bible has two basic divisions,
the Old Testament and the New Testament. The Old Testament contains 39 books and was written in Hebrew with a few portions in
Ezra and Daniel written in Aramaic. The New Testament contains 27 books and was written in Greek. Lets take a look at the basic
structural divisions of our Bible. If you are not familiar with it, you will
find that the Bible is quite a library in and of itself!

The
Didache
http://www.christianarsenal.com/Apologetics/Didache.htm
Besides the Scriptures the Didache is perhaps one of the oldest
documents that was used by the early church as a guide for teaching. There is no firm date assigned to it but many believe that it could
possibly date between AD 70 to 130. It was cited by early Church Fathers such as Clement of Alexandria and Athanasius. Athanasius
recognized the fact that it was not part of the inspired writings but maintained that it should be on the list of things a new convert should read. (Festal Letter 39)

The Murder of Jesus by John MacArthur
In this historical narrative, Pastor-Teacher Dr. John MacArthur gives a
complete biblical account of the events leading up to and including Jesus'
crucifixion. This chronological examination includes a detailed look at
everything from Judas's betrayal to Peter's denial to Christ's final words on
the cross and the significance of His atoning work. In the midst of the
drama, MacArthur draws out personal points in regard to handling unjust
suffering, as well as examples of the disciples' faulty faith. MacArthur's
most poignant question, however, asks the reader to investigate who is
responsible for Jesus' death. The answer might surprise you even while it
elevates you to a new level of doctrinal maturity by shedding light on
God's sovereignty during the most devilish murder in history.
