July's
Edition focuses on Spiritual
Discernment |
|
|
In this time of “Tolerance” and “Relativism” many Christians do
not know their responsibilities according to what God has revealed in His word. There are those
who are running rampant in the Church today because they have convinced many that we are not to
judge anything. There are also people outside of the church who cry for “Tolerance” telling us
that by judging and discerning we are violating the very Bible we say we believe. This has left
many confused and has silenced them in the church and kept them from being what God intended them
to be in the world.
To begin, the subject of discerning, judging, knowing and proving
are interwoven together in the scriptures. There are issues and matters we are not to judge and
others we are. Some matters are the job of God alone, some matters fall squarely on the shoulders
of the believer. How can we tell which is which? The best thing to do when you want information
on what God expects is to look at what God has said to us about the subject in His Word.

PC(USA)’s Departure From Biblical Principles Yields to Condemnation from Within
http://headlines.agapepress.org/archive/6/252001d.asp
(AgapePress) - The recent ruling by the Presbyterian Church (USA) to lift a ban on the
ordination of homosexuals has brought strong opposition from other Presbyterian groups.
At their recent meeting in Louisville, the PC(USA) voted 317-208 to lift a ban on the
ordination of homosexuals. However, the measure must be ratified by a majority of the
church’s 173 regional governing bodies, or presbyteries, over the next year before it
can take affect.
However, according to Crosswalk.com, other Presbyterians --both within the PC(USA) and
those who are part of the Presbyterian Church of America -- are calling for a return to
conservative doctrine. And a “confessing church movement” has sprung up among some PC(USA)
congregations that supports Biblical principles, including that marriage between a man and a
woman is the only relationship in which sexual activity is permitted.

Mormonism and Archaeology
http://www.christianarsenal.com/MormonArchaeology.htm
Read the Smithsonian Institution's rebuttal to an inquiry concerning their alleged use of
the Book of Mormon as a scientific guide. Their Department of Anthropology responds.... "
The Book of Mormon is a religious document and not a scientific guide. The Smithsonian
Institution has never used it in archeological research and any information that you have
received to the contrary is incorrect. Accurate information about the Smithsonian's position is
contained in the enclosed "Statement Regarding the Book of Mormon," which was prepared
to respond to the numerous inquiries that the Smithsonian receives on this topic.......

Controversial Topics
http://www.christianarsenal.com/ContTopics.htm
The purpose of this section of the Christian Arsenal is not to criticize but to call
attention to facts. All of the links below are links to help Christians discern various
ministries, teachings and movements that are either non-Biblical, anti-Christian, anti-family
or are movements that hold questionable teachings and or practices. In researching and working
through various topics it is to be remembered by anyone who is using this site for reference,
God loves everyone! We are to follow the same admonishment.

The Wedge of Truth - Phillip E. Johnson
By asking the right questions, Phil Johnson brilliantly exposes the fault lines of the reigning
Darwinian orthodoxy and challenges its disciples who preach philosophical naturalism under the
guise of science. Professor Johnson combines a broad knowledge of biology with the incisive
logic of a leading legal scholar to deliver a brilliant and devastating attack on the whole
edifice of Darwinian belief.

The New Evidence That Demands A Verdict - Josh McDowell
This book is a battery of evidences for the claims of the Christian Faith. If evidence for
Christianity is what you are wanting, then this is the book for you. The contents of this book
range from the authenticity of biblical texts, the deity of Jesus, higher biblical criticism
(i.e. the Jesus Seminar, documentary hypothesis, etc.), and historical skepticism, to the
nature of truth, the knowability of truth, and the knowability of history. Other areas of
special interest for the Christian apologists are postmodernism, skepticism, agnosticism, and
mysticism and how to answer each of these worldviews in light of the truths of Christianity.
Furthermore, there is a chapter on defending miracles and the historical reliability of the
Bible. If you have been wanting a book that contains a storehouse of evidences and references
to others in history who have defended the Christian faith, then this is one of the best single
volume books available.
