It is however being read by our
society and our children. Dr. William Lane Craig in his book Reasonable
Faith, points out that most Christians do not that there is a war in
our schools from pre-school to the university. This is a battle for the
mind and soul of our children. It is a battle that many do not realize is
going on and it is one we are not equipping out children to fight. The
truth of the matter is many Christians could not survive one battle in
this war. I would encourage every believer to read this book.
You hear the term the dumbing down
of America when the subject of the quality of education is discussed. The
average 14 year old in 1955 had nearly three times the vocabulary of the
the average 14 year old today. What does this have to do with
Christianity? Today we are in a similar situation. Christianity is
becoming not a faith but a feeling. The more feeling the more God you are
getting. I guess this puts a definite religious significance to race car
driving and sky diving. We are a generation of sign seekers. We are lazy
and we seek to be entertained. We rarely touch the Bible. We wont study it
for sure. The reading many Christians do is at best Christian Fiction. I
guess it soothes their conscience for lack of reading the Word of God and
studying it.
Where does this leave the average
Christians? It leaves them with a lot to do. Be honest with your self. Are
you spending enough time in Bible study and prayer? Are the things you're
reading things that edify and build up? Yes this is getting personal....If
you can't say you are doing all you can to prepare your family and
yourself for a victorious Christian Life then you may need to change some
things. When God saved you He did not tell you to check your brain at the
door or fill it so full of mind numbing mush that you can just barely
function as a Christian. Husbands put away the golf and hunting magazines
and turn off the WWF . Ladies get rid of those romance novels (yes even
the so called Christian ones) and the fashion magazines and turn off Oprah
and the soaps too. Let's get down to business. The following links will be
a good place to start exploring some good Christian Literature. Remember
the Bible first!
I am not saying give up everything
that is entertainment by all means enjoy what God has given you. Have fun
with your hobbies. Enjoy God's blessings. (Don't spend too much time on
the computer.) Obey 2 Tim.2:15. You owe it to your children!!! I do
believe Jesus was serious about that "make disciples"
thing he mentioned in Matthew 28:19-20!
