Morality

  1. Morality...Can it be Legislated?

  1. ✦Can We Legislate Morality? - An oft-quoted statement has it that we can't legislate morality. We are told that it is useless and even wrong to enact certain kinds of legislation because they involve trying to make people moral by law, and this, it is insisted, is an impossibility.

  1. ✦Moral Relativism: Is it True You Can't Legislate Morality? -The difference between utilitarian ethics and deontological ethics: utilitarian ethics says the accomplishment of your goal makes your action good; deontological ethics says your actions are good regardless of their success. Utilitarian ethics are not biblical. Deontological ethics are biblical.

  1. ✦You Can't Legislate Morality - You cannot legislate morality! That is the most quoted phrase of liberals when they oppose a piece of legislation, but have a weak argument against its passage.

  1. ✦Who said you can’t legislate morality? - No doubt what's meant is that you cannot legislate the intentions of the heart. We cannot pass a law that changes a man's heart. By passing a law you cannot make a bad man good. So, in that sense, it's true.
